Report finds that demand for IT developers on the rise

The world of IT moves fast, a fact that can sometimes make it difficult for workers in the industry to stay up-to-date on the latest trends in the job market. However, a new report by a major Boston-based research shed light on the skills that IT professionals will need in 2012, as well as the positions that will likely be garnering the attention of hiring managers looking to fill vacancies in the new year.

The recently released report by Robert Half Technology (RHF), which has been tracking the IT job market for more than a decade, found that developers ranked high among the most in demand IT professionals for 2012. As such, the report suggested that individuals who have formal Oracle SQL certifications could be among those who benefit from new hiring, as it indicated that MySQL knowledge could separate developers from the ranks of other qualified candidates.

Recent graduates or currently employed workers may also be able to find opportunity provided they have completed SharePoint 2010 online training in the past, according to the report. Rounding out RHF's list of skills that are likely to be beneficial to IT job seekers were Java, PHP, Silverlight, Flex and .NET.

RHF's researchers say the increase in developer hiring is likely to take place due to the growing reliance of businesses on cloud computing and mobile phone devices. In addition, a separate report by InformationWeek found that mobile application and Web developers are likely to experience salary increases due to this upswing in demand.
