Implementing Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Part 2 (CIPT-2)

Prerequisites

  • Ability to configure and operate Cisco routers  and switches
  • Ability to configure and operate Cisco Unified  Communications Manager in a single-site environment

Course Objectives

This subtopic provides an overview of how the course is organized. The course contains these components:

  • Implement  call-processing resiliency in remote sites by using Cisco Unified SRST, MGCP  fallback, and Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express in Cisco Unified  SRST mode

  • Implement  Device Mobility and Cisco Extension Mobility
  • Describe  and implement CCD deployments.

Module 1: Multisite Deployments
Describe  the issues in multisite deployments and their solutions, and describe and  configure required dial plan elements.

Lesson 1: Identifying Issues in  a Multisite Deployment

This  lesson explains issues pertaining to Cisco Unified Communications Manager  multisite deployment and relates the issues to multisite connection options.  Upon completing this lesson, you will be able to meet these objectives:

  • List  dial plan issues and possible solutions
  • Describe  how site codes and transformation masks solve issues caused by overlapping  directory numbers
  • Describe  how to implement PSTN access in a multisite deployment

This  lesson describes the mechanisms for providing call survivability and device  failover in remote sites, including the functions, operation, and limitations  of each mechanism. Upon completing this lesson, you will be able to meet these  objectives:

  • Describe  how MGCP fallback works
  • Describe  SRST versions, their protocol support and features, and the required Cisco IOS  Software release

Lesson 2: Implementing SRST and  MGCP Fallback

This  lesson defines how to configure Cisco Unified SRST to provide call  survivability for IP phones, and MGCP fallback for gateway survivability. Upon  completing this lesson, you will be able to meet these objectives

  • Describe  the configuration requirements at Cisco Unified Communications Manager and at  the SRST gateway
  • Describe  how to configure Cisco Unified Communications Manager to enable SRST for remote  phones
  • Describe  how to configure a Cisco IOS router for SRST

Module 3: Bandwidth Management and Call Admission Control

Implement  bandwidth management and CAC to prevent oversubscription of the IP WAN.

Lesson 1: Managing Bandwidth

This  lesson defines techniques to reduce bandwidth requirements on IP WAN links in  Cisco Unified Communications Manager multisite deployments. Upon completing this  lesson, you will be able to meet these objectives:

  • Describe  methods to minimize bandwidth requirements for Cisco Unified Communications
  • Configure  Cisco Unified Communications Manager in order to control the codec that is used  for a call
  • Implement  local conference bridges in order to avoid accessing conference bridges over  the IP WAN even if all participants are local
  • Implement  transcoders in order to allow low-bandwidth codecs to be used in the event  where low-bandwidth codecs are not supported by both endpoints
  • Implement  multicast MOH from branch router flash to avoid MOH streams over the IP WAN

  • Implement  locations-based CAC in Cisco Unified Communications Manager
  • Implement  RSVP-enabled locations-based CAC in Cisco Unified Communications Manager
  • Implement  AAR in order to reroute calls over the PSTN if  not enough bandwidth is available for an on-net call
  • Implement  SIP Preconditions on SIP trunks in Cisco Unified Communications Manager
